Because of the implementation of the Environmental Management System (EMS), specified by ISO 14001, we have become conscious of the many ways we can positively impact the environment. One very significant way is through waste reduction, from the simplest act of recycling to the application of sophisticated software to maximize material use. Through our EMS, we made the connection between sustainability and our bottom line: Focusing on the environment makes us more efficient and cuts costs – it makes us a better company.
Eco Initiatives
Painting & Coating
Typical eco-friendly systems cannot reduce both VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds which include solvents such as Xylene and toluene.) and CO2. The development target was to reduce both - a 45% reduction in VOC emissions and a 6% or more reduction in CO2 emissions. To reduce CO2, Almac sought to eliminate its primer paint through the use of low-solvent paint. A reduction in VOC was to be achieved by reducing the amount of solvent in the paint and reducing the paint consumption.

The filter system removes all toxins and harmful air before venting the air into the atmosphere. This makes our spray booth environmentally friendly.
Welding
Almac deploys filter ventilation systems in in its fabrication facilities to reduce air born particles and dust entering the atmosphere. Their superior filtering ability removes 99.97% of pollutants such as welding smoke and dust down to 0.3 microns with each pass.
Waste management
Almac promotes residual materials recovery, reclamationand reduce the quantity of residual materials sent for disposal sites.
High efficiency equipment
All equipment’s manufactured at Almac are designed and fabricated, keeping in mind the environmental impact of operating the equipment. All gear motors used in our equipment are of high efficiency type to reduce energy consumption.
Chemical & Hazardous Material Management
All chemicals and hazardous material are handled in accordance with Environment Canada regulations in association with Cleanharbors Inc.
