Our Systems Approach

Our History

In 1969, Almac Industrial Systems opened its doors as a manufacturer of relatively standard roller, belt and chain conveyors. How times have changed. A classic example of Canadian perseverance and dedication to quality, this privately owned company has evolved from its humble beginnings into a well-respected, global provider of custom, turnkey systems.

The shift toward tailoring solutions for material handling industry, rather than selling stock items, has been so dramatic that the original name, Almac Conveyor Company Ltd., was changed in 2008. The new name, Almac Industrial Systems, better suits our position as “Unit Handling Specialists” that design, engineer, manufacture, automate, install and commission complete industrial systems.

A few very important things have not changed since the day Al McLaren and Glen Lewis first set up shop in the original Scarborough location: Almac’s commitment to Quality equipment, dedicated customer Service, product Innovation, competitive Value and solid engineering Partnership. These core principles are Almac’s foundation.

Since 1996, Stewart McLaren has guided Almac through critical years of development and expansion. As President, he embraced the concept of offering customers maximized purchasing power via a one-stop-shop that engineers and customizes a wide range of material handling equipment. This vision required further plant expansion that wasn’t possible at the original location. The same year he became President, Stewart relocated Almac to 155 Engelhard Drive in Aurora, Ontario, Canada (30 kms North of Toronto). In 2010, Almac Industrial Systems was relocated to  a  larger facility  at 420 Industrial Parkway South in Aurora, Ontario, Canada (current location) to cater for the ever increasing demands of our customers.

We are proud of our solid reputation as a design/build facility, dedicated to customized solutions and superior service. And our customers agree. Almac equipment keeps a variety of different industries and OEM manufacturers rolling throughout North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific region and Latin America.

What will the next 40 years hold for Almac? Naturally, continued diversification of product offerings; commitment to R&D; ongoing acquisitions of state-of-the-art equipment; and a staff of highly-skilled personnel. But most of all, we’ll continue to offer the same core principles -- Quality, Service, Innovation, Value and Partnership – upon which our company was built.
